Mobile Hotspot Not Working: Common Fixes
Fix basic hotspot connection issues between mobile and laptop.

- Is mobile data on and working on the phone itself? Open a website on the phone first.
- Turn the hotspot off and on; toggle Airplane mode for 10 seconds.
- On the laptop, Forget the hotspot network and connect again with the correct password.

Connected but no internet

Laptop cannot see the hotspot
- Set the hotspot band to 2.4 GHz (Android: Hotspot settings → AP band / “Extend compatibility” on iPhone) – older laptops cannot see 5 GHz.
- Rename the hotspot to a simple name without emoji or Hindi characters.
- Keep the phone close (within a few metres) and screen on for the first connection.
- Some phones turn the hotspot off after a few minutes without devices – disable “Turn off hotspot automatically”.
- Update the laptop’s Wi-Fi driver (Device Manager → Network adapters).
Hotspot is very slow
- Check the phone’s own signal: 1–2 bars or “4G” falling to “E/H” means a weak tower; move near a window.
- Pause Windows Update and OneDrive/Google Drive sync on the laptop: Settings → Network → Wi-Fi → hotspot properties → Metered connection: On.
- Limit connected devices to the ones you need.

Alternative: USB tethering
Connect the phone to the laptop with a USB cable → Settings → Hotspot & tethering → USB tethering. It is often faster and more stable than Wi-Fi hotspot, charges the phone at the same time and works even if the laptop’s Wi-Fi is faulty.
Keep the hotspot secure
- Use WPA2/WPA3 with a strong password; never keep it open.
- Change the password if you shared it in a class or office.
- Turn the hotspot off when not needed – it drains battery and data.

Laptop को hotspot दिखता ही नहीं
