Google Classroom Assignment Upload and Checking Guide
How teachers create assignments in Google Classroom and how students upload and turn in work — plus checking, grading and returning submissions with feedback.
Teacher: create an assignment
- Open the class → Classwork → + Create → Assignment.
- Title + clear instructions (what, how long, how to submit).
- Attach material: Drive file, link, YouTube or upload. For a worksheet choose Make a copy for each student.
- Set Points, Due date & time and a Topic (e.g. Unit 3 – Spreadsheets).
- Optional: add a Rubric so students know how marks are given.
- Click Assign (or Schedule for later).
| File option | Use it when |
|---|---|
| Students can view file | Reading material, question paper |
| Students can edit file | One shared document for the whole class |
| Make a copy for each student | Individual worksheets – each student gets their own copy |
Student: submit correctly
- Open the assignment from the Stream, Classwork or To-do list.
- Under Your work open the copy made for you, or + Add or create → upload file / photo.
- For handwritten work, use the phone app camera; make each page clear and upright, or combine pages into one PDF.
- Click Hand in (Turn in) – just uploading is not submitting.
- Status should show Handed in. Need a change? Unsubmit, edit, hand in again before the due time.
Work handed in after the due time is marked Done late. Do not wait until the last 10 minutes – slow internet is the most common excuse teachers hear.
Teacher: check and return
- Open the assignment → Student work: see Handed in / Assigned / Missing.
- Open each file in the grading tool, add private comments and marks.
- Use a comment bank for repeated feedback.
- Select students → Return – marks are visible only after returning.
- Export grades: Grades tab or Classwork → ⚙ → Copy all grades to Google Sheets.
Tips that save time
- Reuse post: copy last year’s assignments into a new class.
- Topics by unit keep Classwork tidy.
- Parents can get email summaries (Guardian summaries) if the school enables it.
- Link with Google Calendar – due dates appear automatically.
- Track attendance separately: online class attendance sheet.
Teacher: assignment
Make a copy for each student चुनें।
- Points, Due date और time और Topic (जैसे Unit 3 – Spreadsheets) सेट करें।
| File option |
|---|---|
| Students can view file | पढ़ने की सामग्री, question paper |
| Students can edit file | पूरी class के लिए एक साझा document |
| Make a copy for each student | व्यक्तिगत worksheets – हर student को अपनी copy |
Student:
- Stream, Classwork या To-do list से assignment खोलें।
- Your work में अपने लिए बनी copy खोलें, या + Add or create → file / photo upload करें।
- Hand in (Turn in)
Unsubmit, बदलें, due time से पहले फिर hand in करें।
Teacher:
- Assignment खोलें → Student work: Handed in / Assigned / Missing देखें।
Classwork → ⚙ → Copy all grades to Google Sheets।
