Create a Simple Resume in Google Docs
Make a clean student or fresher resume without paid software.
Start from a clean template
- Open docs.google.com → Template gallery → Resumes (Swiss, Serif, Coral, Modern Writer…), or start a blank document.
- File → Page setup: A4, margins 1.5–2 cm.
- Rename the file: Firstname-Lastname-Resume.
- Use one simple font (Arial, Calibri, Roboto, Lato), 10.5–12 pt body, 14–18 pt name.
Sections in the right order

Write strong bullet points
Formula: Action verb + what you did + tool + result (number).

ATS-friendly checklist
- Many companies scan resumes with software (ATS). Use simple headings: Skills, Experience, Education.
- Avoid text inside images, text boxes, icons for phone/email and two-column tables if applying on job portals.
- Copy important words from the job description (e.g. “Power BI”, “SQL”) – only if you really have the skill.
- One page for freshers; two pages only with real experience.
- No photo, date of birth, religion or father’s name unless the employer asks.
Check and export
- Tools → Spelling and grammar; read it aloud once.
- Make every link clickable (Ctrl+K) and test it.
- File → Download → PDF document. Send the PDF, not the editable Doc link.
- Keep a master copy and make a tailored copy for each job type.
