Make this a quiz on

What a Google Forms quiz does

A normal Google Form only collects answers. When you switch on Make this a quiz, the form also checks them: you give each question a correct answer and a number of points, and Forms calculates every student's score the moment they submit.

It is ideal for class tests, weekly MCQ practice, homework checks and entrance screening. You need only a Google account — the form works on any phone or computer, and results land in one place.

Step 1: Create the quiz

  1. Go to forms.google.com and click Blank (or the "Blank quiz" template if you see it).
  2. Give the form a clear title, e.g. Class 10 IT — Unit 3 DBMS Test, and add instructions in the description: time allowed, marks, and whether they can use notes.
  3. Open the Settings tab at the top and turn on Make this a quiz.
  4. Go back to Questions. Add a "Name" and "Roll number" short-answer question first (make them Required) so you can identify each student.
  5. Add your questions. For MCQs choose Multiple choice; for "select all that apply" choose Checkboxes.

Step 2: Add the answer key and marks

  1. Click a question. At the bottom left, click Answer key.
  2. Tick the correct option (or options for checkboxes).
  3. At the top right of the question, enter the points, e.g. 1 or 2.
  4. Optional: click Add answer feedback to show a short explanation or a link to a lesson for wrong answers. This turns the test into a learning tool.
  5. Click Done. Repeat for every question. Name and Roll number questions should have 0 points.
Example: "Which key uniquely identifies each record in a table?" — options: Foreign key / Primary key / Candidate key / Composite key. Answer key: Primary key, 1 point. Feedback for wrong answer: "Revise: Introduction to DBMS".

Step 3: Quiz settings that matter

Setting (Settings tab)What to chooseWhy
Release gradesImmediately after each submission — or — Later, after manual reviewUse "Later" if you have short/paragraph answers to check or want to announce results together.
Respondents can seeMissed questions, Correct answers, Point valuesTurn off "Correct answers" if other sections will take the same test later.
Collect email addressesVerifiedNeeded for "Later" release and for sending each student their own score.
Limit to 1 responseOnStops repeat submissions (students must sign in).
Shuffle question order (Presentation)On for MCQ testsMakes copying from a neighbour harder.

Also shuffle the options inside each MCQ: in the question's three-dot menu choose Shuffle option order.

Step 4: Share the quiz with students

  1. Click Preview (eye icon) and take the test yourself once to catch mistakes.
  2. Click Send → the link icon → tick Shorten URL → Copy.
  3. Paste the link in your class WhatsApp group or post it in Google Classroom.
  4. When time is over, open the Responses tab and switch off Accepting responses.

Step 5: See marks and responses

The Responses tab has three views:

  • Summary — average, median and range, plus "Frequently missed questions". This tells you which topic the class did not understand.
  • Question — every answer to one question, where you can grade short/paragraph answers together.
  • Individual — one student's full paper, where you can add points and feedback, then Release score.

Click Link to Sheets to get all scores in a Google Sheet. From there you can sort by roll number, calculate a class average, or copy marks into your register. For cleaning up such a sheet, see marksheet data cleaning.

Which question types are graded automatically?

Question typeAuto-graded?
Multiple choice, DropdownYes
CheckboxesYes — the student must select exactly the correct set
Short answerOnly when the text exactly matches an answer you listed (add spelling variants)
Paragraph, File uploadNo — grade manually
Multiple-choice grid / Checkbox gridYes, row by row

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Forgetting to set the answer key for one question — that question silently gives 0 to everyone.
  • Showing correct answers immediately when another section will attempt the same quiz later.
  • Not making Name/Roll number required — you get scores you cannot match to students.
  • Using short-answer questions for one-word answers without listing spelling variants ("Primary key", "primary key", "PK").
  • Leaving the form open after the test — late submissions keep coming in.

Google Forms quiz

Make this a quiz on

Step 1: Quiz

Make this a quiz on करें।

— options: Foreign key / Primary key / Candidate key / Composite key। Answer key: Primary key, 1 point।

Setting (Settings tab)
Release gradesImmediately after each submission — या — Later, after manual reviewShort/paragraph answers check करने हों या results एक साथ बताने हों तो "Later" चुनें।
Respondents can seeMissed questions, Correct answers, Point valuesअगर दूसरा section बाद में यही test देगा तो "Correct answers" off रखें।
Limit to 1 responseOnदोबारा submit होने से रोकता है (students को sign in करना होगा)।
Shuffle question order (Presentation)MCQ tests में Onपास बैठे student से copy करना मुश्किल होता है।

  2. Send → link icon → Shorten URL पर tick → Copy।

  • Summary — average, median, range और "Frequently missed questions"।

Question typeAuto-grade?
Multiple choice, Dropdown

Form बनाएँ, Settings tab खोलें और "Make this a quiz" on करें।

हाँ, अगर quiz settings में "Release grades" को "Immediately after each submission" रखा है।

Settings → Responses में "Limit to 1 response" on करें।
