Mysql Installation

Installing MySQL

There are two easy ways to get MySQL running: install MySQL Server directly, or use XAMPP which bundles MySQL with phpMyAdmin — best for students and PHP projects.

Option 1: XAMPP (Easiest)

  1. Download XAMPP from apachefriends.org.
  2. Install it and open the XAMPP Control Panel.
  3. Click Start next to MySQL (and Apache).
  4. Open http://localhost/phpmyadmin to manage databases visually.

Option 2: MySQL Server

  1. Download MySQL Community Server from dev.mysql.com.
  2. Run the installer; set a root password (remember it!).
  3. Finish setup and verify in a terminal:
mysql -u root -p
Enter your password to open the MySQL prompt.

Verify Installation

mysql --version
mysql Ver 8.0.x for ...
